The Hives announce new single ‘Legalize Living’ and upcoming album The Hives Forever Forever The Hives

New single, new manifesto - The Hives fight for freedom with ‘Legalize Living’

The Hives Legalize Living

Swedish rock veterans The Hives have unveiled a new single, ‘Legalize Living’, the latest taste of their upcoming seventh album, The Hives Forever Forever The Hives, due out 29th August.

The track arrives with the band’s usual swagger intact and a suitably offbeat manifesto. “Have you ever felt as though life is strangling you a little bit every day? Like a tight rollneck or the hands of an invisible garden gnome?” the band ask. “Governments all over the world have slowly but surely taken steps to make living itself illegal. Stop normalising this normalisation!”

The single’s video was directed by Filip Nilsson and Henry Moore Selder, the same team behind ‘Paint A Picture’, released earlier this year. That track followed April’s ‘Enough Is Enough’, which kicked off the campaign for The Hives Forever Forever The Hives with a ceremonial premiere in Mexico City and a high-profile performance outside New York’s Rockefeller Center.

The full album promises thirteen tracks produced by long-time collaborator Pelle Gunnerfeldt and Mike D of Beastie Boys, recorded in Sweden and Malibu with mixing input from Josh Homme. Sessions took place at both Benny Andersson’s Riksmixningsverket studio in Stockholm and Yung Lean’s YEAR0001 setup.

The band’s line-up – Howlin’ Pelle, Chris Dangerous, The John And Only, Nicholaus Arson, and Vigilante Carlstroem – remains unchanged as they continue to deliver their signature brand of high-octane garage rock.

A full European and UK tour has also been announced for autumn, including a run of UK dates in Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester, and London’s Alexandra Palace in late November, before a South American stadium tour in 2026 supporting My Chemical Romance.

More than three decades into their career, The Hives continue to find new ways to inject chaos into the modern rock landscape. And as The Hives Forever Forever The Hives nears release, they show no signs of slowing down.
