Gibney previously won an Oscar for his documentary Taxi to the Dark Side and his other credits include Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room and Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine. He also directed 2019’s Citizen K which looked at Russian president Vladimir Putin and his relationship with exiled billionaire Mikhail Khodorkovsky. Clearly, Gibney is drawn to complex, controversial men. Musk fits into his interests nicely; he has been dominating headlines in recent years, especially after he bought social media platform Twitter for $44 billion.

Although the documentary doesn’t have a distributor yet, Deadline reports Jigsaw Productions is producing the film alongside Closer Media, Anonymous Content, and Double Agent, which is also financing the project.
