Andrew Dominik’s Blonde has only revealed a very short teaser trailer and a few snaps of Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe, but already it seems that the entire world has been bewitched by the film which will arrive on Netflix later this year.  Blonde, adapted from Joyce Carol Oates’ novel, will look at the life of Norma Jean Mortenson, who would become Marilyn Monroe, one of the most popular actresses and sex symbols of our time. Dominik’s film will surely be in the awards conversations early next year, with de Armas already tipped for a Best Actress nomination.  The new trailer finally gives us more than just a glimpse of the film, but we have a feeling this one will make us weep. In a dazzling transformation, de Armas looks the spitting image of Monroe. “I can’t face doing another scene with Marilyn Monroe” de Armas breathlessly whispers as Norma Jeane in the trailer.  The film has already caused a bit of controversy after it received the fearsome NC-17 rating in the US. The rating is often associated with hardcore porn and commercially unviable titles.  The film does look undeniably great and will receive its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and be in competition for the coveted Golden Lion prize.  There is still fear that Blonde will be just another example of Hollywood profiting from the memory of Monroe, who was troubled and harshly exploited by the industry.  Blonde Kim Kardashian made headlines recently after wearing Monroe’s custom dress and effectively ripping it. We sincerely hope Blonde, which is a fictionalised account of Monroe’s life, will avoid scandalising her life and career.
