Automotion have announced their forthcoming EP, Dissolve, via the release of their brand-new single, ‘Lost in the Spinal Labyrinth’.

The London four-piece previously welcomed in the new year with the release of their single ‘Liquify’ in January, which marked their first new music since last year’s Artificial Ascent EP.

And now they have a new EP on the horizon, with Dissolve set to land on 19 June, with production and mixing coming from Patrick James Fitzroy (whose credits include fellow ‘Windmill scene’ bands PVA and Sorry, as well as Bristol singer-songwriter Katy J Pearson)

The new project has been heralded by the release of the brilliant, moody new single, ‘Lost in the Spinal Labyrinth’ – which you can have a listen to below.

Describing the new single, guitarist and vocalist Jesse Hitchman has shared: “[Lost in the Spinal Labyrinth] flows through many moods and sonic landscapes to create an interwoven journey with vocals that are both melodic and eerie.”

As well as Hitchman, Automotion consists of fellow guitarist and vocalist Lennon Gallagher, as well as brothers Finton Eatwell-Hurst and Otis Eatwell-Hurst on bass and drums, respectively.

Dissolve will mark the band’s fourth EP in as many years, following 2021’s In Motion, 2022’s Ecstatic Oscillations and Artificial Ascent.

Speaking to whynow around the release of Ecstatic Oscillations, Jesse told us about part of the creative philosophy underpinning the band, saying: “Starting off, for me, I asked the question – how do you create something new? Originally, the idea was to revolutionise music.

“Obviously, that was a bit naive, but I don’t fall for the contemporary view that innovation is not possible. Innovation still is, and that’s remained a key and current theme throughout.

“Conceptually, it’s changed over the years. For a while I started becoming reactionary, towards innovation. I started thinking about self-expression as a reaction to innovation. But that self-expression became a form of cultural expression.

And to celebrate their new EP, the band will be holding a special launch show at The Lexington in Islington on release day (19 June) – see here to buy tickets.
