Chloe Slater has announced her debut album Riot Youth, due 9th October via Stolen Juice (AWAL), alongside lead single ‘Southern Youth’.
The 23-year-old Bournemouth-born, Manchester-based songwriter has spent the past two years building a devoted following through two EPs, You Can’t Put A Price On Fun (2024) and Love Me Please (2025), and a busy touring schedule that included opening for Role Model on his EU and UK run in late 2025. Slater began gaining an interest in politics at 17 during the 2019 general election campaign, and that instinct has sharpened considerably: Riot Youth tackles the climate crisis, late-stage capitalism and the billionaire class, approached not from a position of moral authority but from the perspective of someone still navigating modern life and trying to make sense of it.
The album was produced by long-term collaborator Jack Shuter alongside Ash Workman, whose credits include Metronomy and Stealing Sheep. Its ten tracks span from ‘Mother Nature’s Killing Spree’ and ‘I’ve Never Felt So Hated’ to the more personal ‘Southern Youth’, the focus single and the piece of the album most rooted in her own story.
‘Southern Youth’ is Slater’s account of growing up in Bournemouth: the feeling of being trapped in a seaside town that empties in winter and rarely attracts new bands, and the hunger to get out. “Since I was sixteen I’ve been pretty desperate to live in a city,” she has said, “and I moved to Manchester as soon as I got the chance. After experiencing life in the city, I suppose in a lot of ways I feel more grateful to have grown up there now than I did when I left.”
A headline UK tour follows the album’s October release. Pre-sale opens 17th June with general sale from 19th June.
