Cigarettes After Sex have lifted the lid on their latest album, X’s, dropping on July 12, 2024, through Partisan Records. Along with this announcement, the band are also hitting the road for a massive world tour, including a stop at London’s O2 Arena.

The journey into X’s begins with the release of the lead single ‘Tejano Blue,’ a song that embodies the band’s signature ethereal pop sound while drawing inspiration from bandleader Greg Gonzalez’s Texas roots. You can listen to it below.

‘Tejano Blue’ serves as a tribute to Gonzalez’s childhood, mixing the nostalgia of Tejano music with the dreamy vibes of the Cocteau Twins. Gonzalez shares, “I grew up in El Paso & Tejano music is huge there…Years later…I finally started listening to Selena’s ‘Como La Flor’ at the same time that I was also listening to a lot of Cocteau Twins. I had the idea then to try to combine both of their sounds somehow.”

X’s promises a deep dive into a four-year relationship that left a mark on Gonzalez, presenting raw, emotional vignettes against the backdrop of slow-burning pop songs. “The record feels brutal,” admits Gonzalez, highlighting the intense personal journey that inspired the album.

Fans eager to catch Cigarettes After Sex live can look forward to their upcoming tour, with the O2 Arena show set to be a highlight. Pre-sale tickets will be available for UK fans who pre-order the album, starting March 6.
