The disgraced DJ Tim Westwood has been accused of having sex with a 14-year-old, an investigation from BBC News and the Guardian has found.
The woman in question says Westwood was in his 30s at the time. She is one of several to come forward as part of the investigation, which looked at allegations of misconduct and abuse between 1990 and 2020.
Mr Westwood has not responded to a request for comment, although in response to the BBC Documentary at the time, a spokesperson for the DJ said he denied the allegations in their entirety.
“Our client confirms that there has never been any complaint made against him, whether officially or unofficially, relating to claims of inappropriate behaviour of the nature described,” they said.
The joint investigation from the two media outlets, investigated the stories 10 women who came forward following allegations levelled against Westwood in April.
The testimonies of these and other women feature in a new BBC News documentary, Hip Hop’s Open Secret: Tim Westwood, which airs today (July 13) on BBC Three at 10pm and is available on BBC iPlayer. The documentary examines new concerns about the 64-year-old’s behaviour over three decades.
More than one woman to speak out as part of the investigation say they were under the age of 18 when they were sexually assaulted by Westwood.
Last week, the BBC admitted it had received six sexual misconduct complaints against Westwood, including one historical incident that was referred to the police, contradicting previous claims that it hadn’t received any.
The corporation said in response that “if people have things that they want to raise with the BBC, then they should do so. People have now done so and we will continue to investigate.”
“We also said that we would dig into what happened in the past. We are doing that with great care. All of that work hasn’t concluded and is ongoing. We said we would take this seriously, and we are.”
