Elias Rønnenfelt, the enigmatic frontman of Iceage, is stepping into the solo spotlight with his debut album Heavy Glory, set for release this Friday via Escho. To whet appetites, Rønnenfelt has shared the third and final single from the album, ‘Doomsday Childsplay’, a haunting track featuring the ethereal backing vocals of painter and musician Joanne Robertson. The song is a testament to Rønnenfelt’s ability to marry raw, emotional intensity with complex, textured soundscapes. His distinctive voice wavers between fragility and toughness, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that’s somehow both brittle and resilient.

The single, which dropped at 3pm on Monday, teases the introspective journey of Heavy Glory, an album that was born out of the chaos and isolation of the pandemic era. Much of the material came together during Rønnenfelt’s self-initiated, guerrilla-style European tour in 2022, where he performed in forests, living rooms, and other unconventional venues. This DIY approach fed directly into the album’s themes, with songs like ‘Like Lovers Do’ and ‘Worm Grew a Spine’ tackling the highs and lows of human connection, power dynamics, and the bittersweet nature of love.

The album also features contributions from Iceage drummer Dan Kjær Nielsen and Danish punk legend Peter Peter, alongside vocal appearances from Joanne Robertson and Fauzia. Despite these collaborations, Heavy Glory remains a deeply personal project, reflecting Rønnenfelt’s evolution as both a musician and a storyteller.

For fans eager to hear the new material live, Elias Rønnenfelt will be performing at the Pitchfork Music Festival in London on 7th November, where he’s expected to showcase songs from Heavy Glory in what promises to be an unmissable show.

Heavy Glory will be available on all platforms this Friday.
