HighSchool, the Melbourne to London transplants, have just dropped news about their second EP, Accelerator, set to hit the shelves on April 19 via [PIAS]. Alongside this, they’ve released a new single and video, ‘Doesn’t Matter,’ diving deep into themes of unrequited love with a sound that’s got everyone from Rolling Stone AU to NME singing their praises. Give it a watch below.
Accelerator is shaping up to showcase HighSchool’s unique mix of post-punk and lo-fi bedroom pop, a follow-up to their 2021 debut EP Forever At Last. Produced by Finn Billingham and mixed by Philippe Weiss – the guy who’s worked with Earl Sweatshirt and Drake – this EP promises a sugary cocktail of indie rock flavours.
The single ‘Doesn’t Matter’ is moody and reverb-drenched, a song about the pains of love not returned, featuring Rory Trobbiani’s distant, passionate vocals. It’s accompanied by a video that aims to capture a “modern Southern Gothic atmosphere,” shot in Melbourne’s outskirts, directed by Henry Gosper and produced by the band themselves.
After touring Australia and Japan and stopping at SXSW, HighSchool are set to tour the UK and Europe starting April 28 in Bologna, Italy, and winding up in London on May 23. It’s a busy schedule that promises to bring their new music and energetic performances to a wider audience.
Rory Trobbiani and Luke Scott, the duo behind HighSchool, have quickly made a name for themselves, joining tours with bands like Wet Leg and CHVRCHES, and hitting UK festivals. Now based in Peckham, London, they’re gearing up for their headline tour, fresh off the release of dancefloor-friendly tracks like ‘Colt’ and creating videos that mix escapism with a touch of reality.
