Jordan Rakei, the New Zealand-born, London-based artist, unveils his latest single, ‘Friend Or Foe’, marking another soulful milestone in his distinguished career. This release comes amidst significant personal milestones for Rakei, including a new contract with Decca Records and embracing the challenges and joys of fatherhood.

His upcoming album, The Loop, is set to showcase his ever-evolving ambition and artistry, with a release date set for May 10th, alongside a schedule of intimate UK in-store performances.

‘Friend Or Foe’ emerges as a reflective piece, marrying Rakei’s love for classic soul influences such as Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield with a deep dive into his own emotional landscape. The song delves into the transient nature of relationships and the quest for meaning within these fleeting connections. Rakei’s vocal delivery is notably precise and emotive, soaring over an arrangement that nods to the grandeur of 70s soul, yet pushing into new territory with orchestral, brass, and choir elements.

In his own words, Rakei shares, “In ‘Friend Or Foe’, I explore being content with oneself and understanding the relationships that come and go. It’s also a song about trying to find peace with those who have passed or left us.”

He aims for the track to stand out as one of the most ambitious on his forthcoming album, offering a rich, triumphant soundscape that bridges the gap between his soulful roots and a bold, expansive musical vision.
