West has 31,500,000 followers on the social media platform. He was suspended earlier this month after a series of antisemitic tweets. In one, the rapper and designer threatened to “go death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE” [sic]. It was announced earlier this morning that Elon Musk had completed his takeover of Twitter, in a deal worth around $44 billion. Musk welcomed West back to Twitter on October 8, tweeting: “Welcome back to Twitter my friend!” While the tech entrepreneur and Tesla founder’s plans for Twitter are not fully known, it is widely believed that he is against bans on the platform and wants to promote free speech. He has indicated he could overturn the current lifetime ban imposed against former US president Donald Trump. It’s unclear if Musk had any involvement in unsuspending West’s account. Speaking to Piers Morgan after the suspension, West said he was “absolutely not” sorry over his remarks. A number of brands have cut ties with Ye over his recent anti-Semitic remarks, with the scandal knocking over $1 billion off his net worth.
