The former frontman of The Smiths was playing at LA’s Greek Theatre on the night of Saturday, November 12, when he abruptly left the stage after nine songs.

Video from the event shows a confused silence after Morrissey’s departure, before the band, who were left on stage, announced: “Sorry, but due to unforeseen circumstances, the show is not going to continue. Very sorry. We’ll see you next time.”

The show was part of Morrisey’s headline US tour.

At the 32-minute mark in the video below, Morrissey walks off after performing ‘Girlfriend In A Coma’, seemingly signalling to one bandmate that it’s over.

No official reason has been given for the cancellation.

Online there have been suggestions that the singer was “too cold”. The Greek Theatre is an outdoor venue, but the Californian weather was reportedly in the mid-fifties degrees fahrenheit (13/14 degrees celsius).

The cancellation comes less than a year after Morrissey asked former the Smiths bandmate, Johnny Marr, to ‘stop mentioning his name’ via an open letter.

Morrissey is yet to comment on the early ending of Saturday’s gig.
