Poor Nicholas Hoult. In the upcoming monster movie Renfield, his character has grown tired of a life of servitude under the tyranny of Count Dracula. Played clearly with gusto by Nicolas Cage, Dracula isn’t so keen on letting his long-standing servant go and get his happily ever after.

The final trailer for Renfield teases more jokes, more bloodshed and is that a musical scene we spy?

Check out the trailer below.

There was a time when Universal Pictures, the studio behind Renfield, was planning its own monsterific cinematic universe. That failed miserably, thanks to the abysmal The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise.

Thankfully, we’ve seen some superb efforts from the studio in similar films. The Invisible Man was one of the best films of 2022, perhaps precisely because the responsibilities of a shared cinematic universe didn’t bog it down.

Similarly, Renfield looks like a grand ol’ time. Nicholas Hoult, scene-stealing in last year’s The Menu, looks like he’s having the time of his life, but it’s all about Nicolas Cage. Cage, who has always had a sense of self-awareness, looks like he is putting on his funniest performance yet as Dracula.

Renfield arrives in cinemas on 14 April.
