Laura Marling is back with a new single, ‘No One’s Gonna Love You Like I Can’, from her upcoming album Patterns in Repeat, set to drop on 25th October 2024. The track is streaming now—so go give it a listen.
Patterns in Repeat is Marling’s eighth album, marking her longest break between releases in a decade and a half. Written after the birth of her daughter last year, the album dives into family life, exploring the everyday dramas and connections that bind us together. Recorded at her home studio in London, Marling had her daughter nearby during most of the sessions, making this one an especially personal project.
Marling reflects, “Over the course of nine months, I had happily prepared myself for the fact that my life as a songwriter would be put on hold while I adjusted to life as a new parent. How delighted then was I to discover that for the first few months of a baby’s life, you can bounce them in a bouncer and play guitar all day.”
The album takes a close look at the messy, beautiful dynamics of family life. Marling adds, “This banal constellation seems to have dominated the writing of Patterns in Repeat – the drama of the domestic sphere, the frail threads that bind a family together, the good intentions we hold onto for our progeny and the many and various ways they get lost in time.”
If you’re hoping to catch Marling live, you might be out of luck. Her London and New York shows sold out almost instantly. But if you’re in NYC, there’s a newly added matinee on 10th November—so snap up a ticket if you can.
Laura Marling has also launched a Substack newsletter, where she’s been sharing thoughts on songwriting. If you’re interested in what goes on in the mind of one of Britain’s finest, it’s worth subscribing.
