UGLY will follow 2019’s Nothing Great About Britain and 2021’s TYRON. “The first album was the sound of where I’m from and everything I thought I knew,” slowthai said. “The second album is what was relevant to me at that moment in time, the present. And this album is completely me — about how I feel and what I want to be… it’s everything I’ve been leading up to.” “At a time when i hated myself, creating this album saved me and taught me how to love myself,” he added on social media.
To mark the announcement, slowthai has released the single ‘Selfish’. That’s been more conventional choice of album promotion, as he also appears to be alone in a room fitted with two-way mirrors and is streaming his experience live. As of lunchtime on Wednesday 25 January, the stream is still live, with slowthai seemingly asleep. slowthai made his name as a rapper, but based on ‘Selfish’ and the features enlisted, UGLY could have a larger rock influence. The brilliant Fontaines D.C. appear on the title track, while indie artists Ethan P. Flynn and Jockstrap’s Taylor Skye also appear.
