The Power of the Dog mimicked its BAFTA successes at this year’s Critic’s Choice Awards by winning Best Picture, with its director Jane Campion also being crowned Best Director.

Equally, Will Smith also saw off competition (notably against Benedict Cumberbatch for his performance in The Power of the Dog – though I guess you can’t win it all). Smith took on the role of Richard Williams, father and coach of Serena and Venus.

Probably the most touching award to have been given across the BAFTAs and now the Critic’s Choice Awards, though, is the one given to Troy Kotsur. Kotsur won Best Supporting Actor – also the same gong he won at the BAFTAs – for his role in CODA. His win at the BAFTAs made him the first deaf actor to win a main category award.

The young star of Belfast, Jude Hill, meanwhile picked up the Best Young Actor/Actress award, before giving a sweet speech thanking his parents, fellow cast members and “the best till last, Sir Kenneth Branagh… for choosing me.”

On the TV side, Succession won the big award – Best Drama Series – whilst the show’s Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook won the Best Supporting Actor and Actress prizes. Football comedy and all-round transatlantic love affair Ted Lasso, meanwhile, won Best Comedy Series.
