Alexander Skarsgård and Mia Goth let loose in the trailer for Infinity Pool

Universal Pictures have released a new trailer for Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool, which looks positively bonkers and disturbing.

Infinity Pool

Brandon Cronenberg, son of David, wowed and shocked audiences at this year’s Sundance Film Festival with Infinity Pool, his latest film tackling just how much damage can be done to the human body.

Much like his cult director father, Brandon seems interested in how our bodies can be violated and corrupted, and Infinity Pool seems to home in on that.

Check out the Infinity Pool trailer below.

The official synopsis goes a little something like this: “While staying at an isolated island resort, James (Alexander Skarsgård) and Em (Cleopatra Coleman) are enjoying a perfect vacation of pristine beaches, exceptional staff, and soaking up the sun. But guided by the seductive and mysterious Gabi (Mia Goth), they venture outside the resort grounds and find themselves in a culture filled with violence, hedonism, and untold horror. A tragic accident leaves them facing a zero tolerance policy for crime: either you’ll be executed, or, if you’re rich enough to afford it, you can watch yourself die instead.”

Judging from the trailer, it seems the rich can clone themselves and submit their hapless clones for punishment instead of themselves. In other words, if you have enough money, you can commit any crime and not suffer the consequences. As always, Cronenberg weaves in complex ethical questions while giving us a decent dose of pure horror.

If you’ve seen Cronenberg Jr.’s previous films, Possessor and Anti-Viral, you already know Infinity Pool is more than likely to rattle us to our core. It’s bound to be gory and disgusting.

You can find out on 24 March when it arrives in UK cinemas.
