From Arya Starr to Tyla via The Last Dinner Party, it's set to be a good year for fresh music!

BBC-Sound-Of-2024

The BBC Sound Of 2024 longlist is out, spotlighting the artists poised to make big waves in the music scene. This prestigious accolade is a nod to the artists’ potential and the impression they’ve already made in the industry.

FLO nabbed the title last year, joining the ranks of Stormzy, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, and Dua Lipa.

A panel of over 140 industry pros, including stars like Olivia Rodrigo and Mahalia, have put their heads together to pick out the names they believe will be on everyone’s lips this coming year – and it’s an incredibly varied selection.

From Ayra Starr to Caity Baser’s alt-pop flair and from Irish sensation CMAT to Elmiene, also included in the list are Peggy Gou, Sekou and The Last Dinner Party, the latter two of whom also managed to nab BRIT Rising Star Award nominations.

Chris Price, Radio 1’s Head of Music, says of the list, “The number of female artists this year is a promising sign for the future of festival headliners. We’re thrilled about the diverse mix, mirroring Radio 1’s genre-spanning support for each of these acts. 2024 is looking bright for new music!”

The nominated acts, in alphabetical order, are:

  • Ayra Starr
  • Caity Baser
  • CMAT
  • Elmiene
  • Kenya Grace
  • The Last Dinner Party
  • Olivia Dean
  • Peggy Gou
  • Sekou
  • Tyla

Tune into Radio 1 from 1st January, 2024, as they start the countdown of the Top 5. The big reveal of the winner will take place live on Radio 1 in a special show on Friday, 5th January.
