Chatten’s new track comes off the back of a remarkable 12 months for him and his Irish post-punk outfit, with it being almost a year to the day since the release of Fontaines D.C.’s sensational third studio album, Skinty Fia.
Among the critical accolades for the band following Skinty Fia’s release includes a BRIT award for International Group of the Year, a Best Album nomination for the Ivor Novello Awards, which was announced last week, and of course – most significantly of all – a number one spot for whynow’s favourite albums of 2022.
‘The Score’ arrives with a brand-new video, directed by Georgie Jesson, for you to watch and check out the tune below.
Speaking in a typically poetic fashion, Chatten has said of today’s release: “‘The Score’ is a heavyweight bated breath of lust.”
“I wrote it in Madrid between an electric fan and a dying plant and I intend to keep it there. It was inspired by sugar and sunset.”
Whether it marks the opening to a wider solo project for Chatten, or merely a creative stopgap between more Fontaines D.C. output, is unclear – but you can bet whynow will pick up either when they’re announced.
