Having released numerous singles to date and worked with the likes of David Byrne, FKA Twigs and Jockstrap, the Yorkshire-born, London-based artist’s first full-length record certainly fits the bill of being ‘eagerly-anticipated’.

The eight track, 44 minute-length project will arrive on 6 October via Young. And for now at least, we’ve been given a snippet for what’s in store via the album’s title track.

Featuring backing vocals from Ava Gore, ‘Abandon All Hope’ might sound like an indie-rock banger, but bears a typically haunting atmosphere beneath.

Have a listen to the new tune via its self-directed video below, which sees Flynn and Gore on a road trip around the Yorkshire Dales, near to where Flynn spent parts of his childhood.

Discussing the origins and themes of the new tune, Ethan P. Flynn has explained: “It started as a story about a highwayman in America, going around robbing people.”

“He dies, and in purgatory he is forced to repeat the act of robbing his own family, on the road, for all time, until he repents and goes to Hell. The song is obscured and left with the theme of hopelessness.

“We’re in a hopeless time: war in Europe, Covid before that, and I wanted it to sound heavy as a response. Maybe it’s too rocking, but I was coming back to guitars on this album. The guitar is the focus.”
