Friedberg have dropped their latest single ‘Hello’ today, a tantalising preview of their debut album set to launch this August. The single, released under Clouds Hill, showcases a mixture of gripping guitar riffs and the rousing vocals of frontwoman Anna Friedberg, creating a track that swings from sultry to spirited.
It’s just a taste of what’s to come from Friedberg, who have a big year ahead with appearances at major festivals like SXSW and The Great Escape on the horizon and a supporting slot with Big Special come May.
The band, which kickstarted its journey in 2019, consists of the Austrian-born Anna Friedberg, who’s also based in London and Berlin, and includes Emily Linden on guitar and vocals, Cheryl Pinero on bass and vocals, and Laura Williams on drums. Friedberg first caught the public’s eye with their hit single ‘Go Wild,’ which not only landed on the FIFA 2020 soundtrack but also featured in BBC’s Normal People.
Their debut EP Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah brought them early acclaim, and ‘Hello’ (listen here) continues to build on their alternative pop, dance-punk, and pop hooks. Anna describes the track as a journey into a stranger’s mind, offering a fresh perspective and a break from her own thoughts.
With a track record of electrifying performances across Europe and the US, including supporting gigs for Hot Chip and Placebo, and sharing the stage with AnnenMayKantereit in Germany, Friedberg are poised for an exciting year ahead.
