The Darker The Shadow, The Brighter The Light will be the first full-length album from The Streets since 2011’s Computers and Blues. It arrives on 20 October via 679 Recordings, a Warner Music-owned label. To mark the news, the album’s lead single ‘Troubled Waters’ has been released – a terrific, off-beat track that really kicks into gear after the minute-and-a-half mark. Have a listen below. The new album is also being released alongside Skinner’s debut feature film of the same name. The film has been billed as a tripped-out noir murder mystery based in Londons’ clubland, which Skinner has written, directed, shot, edited, scored, funded, and even created his own special effects for, having shot at a number of different locations across the UK last year. The film will initially be screened on dates to be announced at Everyman Cinemas throughout the UK, with more details set to arrive at a later date. Speaking of the new LP, the ever-likeable Skinner has described the new dual project has a long time in the making, saying: “It has been seven long years working on this film and album. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and after dipping my toe in with some shorts and music videos, I felt I was ready. “I tried to go the traditional route for a bit, but it’s always served me better to follow my instincts and just get on with it myself, so I’ve directed it, acted in it, edited, sound mixed, funded, produced it all as well as written it. The album doesn’t exist without it.
