Miles Kane releases new track ‘Baggio’ – a tribute to Italian football legend

Miles Kane has shared new single ‘Baggio’, which sees him recall the impact watching Italian football icon Roberto Baggio had on him as a youngster.

The new track is the second taste of what’s in store for Miles Kane’s forthcoming album One Man Band, set for release on 4 August.

It follows the release of ‘Troubled Son’ last month, which arrived with a one-shot film featuring a cameo from actor James Buckley.

‘Baggio’ hasn’t yet received a video treatment (although feel free to listen to it over compilations of Roberto Baggio’s greatest goals) – but you can listen to the new track below.

Explaining the motivation for writing a tune about the Italian forward, who cast a distinctive look on the pitch with his ‘divine ponytail’, Miles Kane has described the impact watching him as a youngster had on him.

“I was eight years old when I first saw Baggio on TV,  it was during the 1994 World Cup,” Miles has said.

“I was taken back by his presence, his look and his talent. It was the first time I’d seen a man look so different and unique. Seeing Baggio led me to be obsessed with that Italian football team for many years later.”

“They made me want to grow my hair and I think that was the start of me getting obsessed with clothes, fashion and all things Italian. It was the start of me wanting to grow into who I am today.”

For One Man Band, Kane returned to his hometown, recording the album at Liverpool’s Kempston Street Studios, where he worked with longtime collaborator James Skelly of The Coral, who was on production duties.

Blossoms’ Tom Ogden, Circa Waves’ Keiran Shudall, Andy Burrow and regular writing partner Jamie Biles also helped Kane piece the album together.

Following the release of his forthcoming album, Miles will be playing a series of shows across the country – tickets for which can be purchased here. See the full dates below.
