Superhero fatigue is real. You heard it here first; we are tired of the constant stream of superhero films, each new one more epic than the last. As much as we loved Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and were positively surprised by The Flash, enough is enough.
At least, that’s how I felt before watching the new trailer for Quentin Dupieux’s new film, Smoking Causes Coughing. Dupieux’s new film, which will arrive on UK screens 7 July, cuts through the usual, mass produced superhero fodder with its absurd take on the current trend dominating Hollywood.

Dupieux isn’t a stranger to silliness as is evident from his filmography that includes films such as Mandibles (about a giant fly), Deerskin (a possessed jacket) and Incredible But True (time travel, kind of). Smoking Causes Coughing, which premiered in Cannes at 2022 to rave reviews, seems like another classic addition to Dupieux’s bonkers filmography.
The full synopsis gives us a more detailed plot description: “After a devastating battle against a diabolical turtle, a team of five avengers – known as the TOBACCO FORCE – is sent on a mandatory retreat to strengthen their decaying group cohesion. Their break goes wonderfully well until Lézardin, Emperor of Evil, decides to annihilate planet Earth… But will they repair their relationship in time for a final epic battle?”
