Fresh from announcing his debut album, singer-songwriter and producer Ethan P. Flynn has launched brand-new record label, Crude Oil.

Ethan P. Flynn

The Yorkshire-born, London-based artist has already worked with a host of top-tier talent, including David Byrne, FKA twigs, and Jockstrap, and is now looking to expand his collaborative endeavours by setting up his own label.

The label’s first release comes in the form of Ava Gore’s single ‘25 Metres’, a haunting, spacious tune that features Flynn and started out as a jam session between the pair.

The track arrives with a self-directed video – have a watch and a listen below.

Discussing his motives for setting up the Crude Oil, and how he decided upon the name, Flynn has said: “The idea of the label came out of a conversation around the words ‘crude oil’.

“Crude Oil is an oil, it’s raw, it’s unprocessed and the two words together are a sort of juxtaposition: oil being smooth and crude being unrefined.

“There was something in that I liked and related to collaborations. I’ve worked with other artists quite a lot in my career so far… It’s a process I really enjoy because I find the bringing together of two different ways of music-making really interesting.

“That’s what the label is going to be all about… Working with some of my favourite artists to create some new music and release it in its purest form.”

Flynn recently announced his debut album, Abandon All Hope, set to arrive on 6 October via Young.

To mark the news of the eight track, 44 minute-length project he shared the rather brilliant lead single and title track, which, surprise surprise, features the back vocals of Ava Gore. There’s the spirit of collaboration.
